ZTR's 3 year-old Cal-bred Royal Halo won at Emerald Downs for trainer Frank Lucarelli in his third start of 2023 and it is his second win of the year. He broke his maiden at Santa Anita this March in a gate-to-wire tally. This time Royal Halo cleared a 3 yr-old allowance field by nearly 5 lenths going away. Royal Halo performed in three stakes at Emerald Downs this summer finishing 4th in the two sprints. He has been given some deserved time off at the farm. Royal Halo's sire, Curlin to Mischief is a half-brother to multi-champion racemare Beholder, super sire Into Mischief, and emerging sire Mendelssohn.

Royal Halo's half-brother Grazen Sun is a Cal-bred 4 year-old gelding who debuted at Santa Anita. Grazen Sun won his maiden race at Los Alamitos in the Fall for a purse of $65,000 including the Cal-bred supplement for racing against open company. In addition, Grazen Sun's owners received a $17,500 Maiden Bonus for winning a Maiden Special Weight race in Southern California and his earnings now total $108,674 after winning again at Turf Paradise in April. Grazen Sun is now training at Golden Gate Fields in Blaine Wright's barn. He raced at Pleasanton and Sacramento this summer against allowance company finishing 4th each time.
