Ownership Owning a thoroughbred racehorse can be one of the most exciting experiences in your life! Investing with Z Thoroughbred Racing LLC will lower the cost of the investment by sharing expenses among the different partners. ZTR LLC retains a portion of ownership of each racehorse and therefore has “skin in the game” to insure that financial and operational goals are aligned with yours. Acquisition Strategy ZTR LLC purchases yearling or short yearling thoroughbreds being sold at auctions across the U.S. Using detailed evaluation of pedigree, conformation, bloodstock agent and vet recommendations, a shortlist of potential investments are considered. During the auction, only horses offering the best value are purchased typically within the range of $10,000 to $50,000. Development Yearlings are then shipped to the farm to develop and be initially schooled. 2 year-olds are sent to the track where the trainers begin the process of preparing them for a successful racing career. The initial track locations will be Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington for the Spring/Summer meet (April—September) and Turf Paradise (October-April) in Phoenix, Arizona and Golden Gate Fields (October-June) in Berkeley, California for their Winter meets. Benefits With your participation in a ZTR LLC venture, you will have full access to the stable area, complimentary passes to the Turf Club, paddock privileges and, with luck, a spot in the Winner’s Circle. We encourage partners to visit the horses, meet the trainers and jockeys, attend morning workouts, and enjoy the behind the scenes bustle of the thoroughbred racing world. Financials and Purse Winnings The goal of ZTR LLC and each partnership is for reasonable return on investment and no less importantly, a great time for our partners. ZTR LLC provides quarterly reviews of expenses and each partner receives a Form K-1 annually for each partnership. Purse winnings are distributed to partners within 14 days of each race. First place horse owners generally receive 60% of the purse (depending on individual track); Second—20%, Third—10%, Fourth-6%, Fifth-4%. Trainers typically receive 10% of any purse earnings; jockeys earn 10% of a winning purse, 5% of second or third place purses, and a flat fee of $55 to $100 per mount for finishing off the board. ZTR LLC retains 5% of any purse earned for syndicate administrative expenses. |
